How To Make Your Kitchen Look Expensive

Tricks That Always Make Your Kitchen Look Expensive

New ideas for kitchens are always being talked about. Having the money to do ALL that you want, can sometimes be difficult. Designing any room on a budget is a challenge, but that’s especially the case with a kitchen. Each element in a kitchen, from floors, appliances, lighting to cabinets, can be costly to replace. Still, there are some easy tricks and wallet-friendly ways to create a classic kitchen that looks expensive—without breaking the bank.

Repaint With a Classic Color

One idea to update your kitchen is painting your cabinets instead of replacing them. Some designers suggest choosing a classic color or something neutral. This somewhat simple solution makes a big difference. In this kitchen, they chose navy and it works. Mix in warm accent colors or tones to add some depth to the space.

Pay Attention to Window Treatments

A window without treatments can sometimes look to bare. In this kitchen, they opted for something simple and classic. A sheer covering softens the space and also adds some privacy.  Window treatments and drapery, add the finishing touches to the space and elevate the look.

Extend Your Cabinets to the Ceiling

If a total kitchen renovation isn't in the budget, start with updating the cabinets. Either give them a fresh coat of paint or add new hardware to them. Then, add some height to the cabinets by extending them up to the ceiling. This is an old  trick by interior designers which forces your eyes to look up. It can make the room appear taller, giving it a grander and more expensive look. You can also add crown molding to fill in the empty space above cabinets, again achieving the same goal of a taller ceiling and a more expensive kitchen.

Replace Cabinet Hardware

Out with the OLD and in with the GOLD. If you look in any design or kitchen magazine, you will notice there are so many new ideas for cabinets and drawer pulls.  Replacing hardware is easy for anyone to do themselves and is much more affordable than you think. The trick is, don't go overboard. Keep it simple; keep it classy.

To create an expensive feel in a kitchen, consider sleek, modern options for a sophisticated touch.  Currently, gold and black are the trending colors for fixtures and hardware. Most likely, those finishes are here to stay for a while, even if you have stainless steel appliances.

Swap Out Generic Lighting

Let their be LIGHT! When adding some sophistication to your kitchen, don't forget about your lighting. Choose a style that compliments the other elements in the space. If you check out design magazines, many show modern lighting in classic kitchens. Or, farmhouse styles in traditional ones. You can certainly mix styles and colors to add more depth too. Adding chandeliers can add drama while adding pendant lights to your kitchen island, ambiance. Keep in mind the existing lighting that is already in the ceiling as well. Don't over do it. Less is MORE.

Add Contrast Through an Island

It's all about that BASE.....If you want to create an expensive look in your kitchen without spending a lot of money, simply pick a fabulous color and paint your island. Make sure you pick a color that matches the other elements in the space. This kitchen chose black due to the hardware that was already there.  By choosing a darker color than your cabinets; that’ll give the island some contrast.  This makes the kitchen look designed, which everyone assumes is pricey.
